It's not 'in place of' p/s fluid.

Dexron type ATF is what Toyota recommends for the p/s system. Using p/s fluid is NOT recommended by the Toyota factory. End of story.

Wow - thanks for getting on this. It sounds like I am not in an immediate crisis, but I need to bleed/purge/flush the PS stuff through. A little will probably not do me any harm.

I know this is extreme, but my time may be worth more than my money at the moment. I can buy a new PS pump (minus the reservoir) cheap. Should I simply replace the pump and fill? Is that faster, or is the bleed procedure the same.

Most of the fluid is in the lines and the steering box - you need to flush it.
