anybody running a propane setup on their 22re trail/rock/dd looking more into doing this with a DD

 

I was just thinking about this this morning. Interested to see if anyone is doing this.

 

All the propane setups I've seen are for 22Rs. They require carburetors.

cool thing about the 22r with propane is that you can switch from Propane to pump gas..



22RE kits.
We now have a kit designed to use the E.F.I. engine. They are designed to run propane only. Lose that smashed up gas tank and poor driveability due to faulty sensors and old wiring with bad connections. It requires a carbureted distributor and ignition coil. It retains the stock intake manifold and throttle cables. It is designed to remove all of the efi wiring and sensors related to gasoline, resulting in two wires required to power the engine!

We usually use about 5 to 6 gallons if we run the truck non-stop all day. This is rock crawling/ trail running, about 8 good ones! A typical day of normal trail riding uses about 4 gallons. There is no loss in power with these kits, only power gains!! These are legal for road use depending as long as your local emissions laws allow it.

Note: These are not forklift kits! Don't be fooled by other companies that claim to be the same. Unfortunately this is not the truth. There are several very important differences that affect power and longevity. It is equivalent to a one barrel carburetor! Compare it to my samurai kit minus parts!



Price: $825 for the complete kit which includes tank brackets.Does not come with a tank. (has brackets for one tank).
Possible Extras: Extra tank brackets available for $75

 

i saw that, that's the whole reason i asked about using it on a dd. just want to hear more about what others have to say about their pane injected rig

 

you might wanna go over on pirtate, lots more guys over there running propane. Don't know of anyone running an re kit though. Someone around this area was building a turbo/carb/propane setup, don't know if they started or finished it yet though. And yes I said turbo + carb.

 

hmm...had no idea they made a kit for the 22RE. That's interesting.

I'd consider it if I could switch between gasoline and propane, but I don't know how much Arizona emissions testing will like that. I'll have to check it out.

What I'm confused about is how the 22RE kit works:

Does the ECU still operate the injectors?
I can't see this happening if it can run off two wires like advertised. How does fuel get to the combustion chamber?
Maybe I'm just not understanding how the whole system works, but from what I can put together you're basically turning a 22RE into a 22R but keeping the intake manifold.

Clarification on this would be awesome.

if they don't like it you can always tell them that propane has much lower emission than a gasoline vehicle by far. If it did then there would be emissions testing on 90% of people back yard grills

 

I could tell them that, but you know those government types...stuck in their ways!

a yota with propane is a grill alot of guys cook on them out in the middle of no where.

 

So I answered my own question:
- the injector ports get blocked off and the propane mixes with the air before the throttle body
