Preserving Frame

Ye Olde Frame Quest.
After doing "a bed off" frame restore/weld on one truck I'm curious if anybody modified [i.e. drilled drainage holes] in their frames to try and prevent those areas from rusting.
I heard that Toyota's new frames are left open so that the debris/salt gets washed out more easily.
Google search didn't come up with anything regards modifying, but this article was informative:

Come on you McGyver's

I was thinking about drilling holes in the bottom as well. I just got a 93 that I can still read the numbers on the frame (I'm in canada and this is rare around here). The frame has about 1" of mud in it. I have filled it up with chainsaw bar oil for now but I think I will drill holes and undercoat spray inside the frame. I wonder what there thinking was when they did not leave any drain holes on the bottom....

there is only 1 small drain hole .. at the front of the rear spring , front hanger . I open this hole up a bit on all the trucks I do , just to help with drainage . but the BEST thing you can do , like regular maintanance is wash out the inside of the frame with a garden hose
