Power steering whine Please help!!

I have a '90 4runner v6 4x4, auto. I have just replaced the power steering pump, and I have a god awfull whine comming from the pump. Not only when I steer but when the brakes are aplied too. whats causing this? Its like I have the wrong fluid in or something. I'm using the factory recomended Dexron III. When I 1st installed the pump it was doing it so I got a exchange for another and still the same thing happens. Anybody have any sudgestion. Its driving me crazy. Thanks

Did you get all the air out of the system. It takes a while. In the manual there is a method to getting the air out of the system, and making sure you have enough fluid. The only time my PS pump whined is when I didn't have enough fluid. Even now with 37" tires, I don't hear any complaining from the PS pump.

I use the bleeding instructions here:

And likely you have ABS brakes and the ABS actuator is powered off of the power steering pump via lines off of the steering box.

OK I'll try that, I thought I bleed the system good with the tires off the ground but I didnt do it this way. It looks like I didnt have the right fluid either, so I'll flush that out to. Thanks guys

For an all-Toyota system, ATF is the proper fluid.
