power steering fluid type

can someone tell me what type power steering fluid type my 86 truck uses? i dont have a manual and there is no lables under the hood. Thanks

If you look closely on the cap in black letters it should say dexron/mercron ATF. Don't use powersteering fluid it will eat up all your seals and leak.

thank you. i had an oil leak that has slung oil everywhere. i will clelan up the cap and take a look.

p/s fluid and dexron/mercon are the same thing. Use dexron/mercon III cause its cheaper. At a lot of parts stores there tend to only be p/s fluid with stop leak which you dont want to put into the pump

Where did you come up with that, I just went and poured some out of both and besides the color they don't even have the same thickness. Not saying you're wrong maybe I just learned something.
