It is remarkable to see a pre 94 Toyota around here with no rust. People travel down to Cali and bring back Toyota's and charge buyers out the a** to buy them because they are rust free!

But I guess thats what we get for combining gravel/sand with salt on our roads in the winter..... makes for some sweet rust.

Wow, they combine gravel and sand with the salt up there? Here its pure salt and they spread it like its free.

They dont put salt on our roads... just liquid de-icer... why wouldnt they just use that instead?

In my area we don't just have a problem with ice
We get heavy snow fall, so the sand is incorporated to add grip to our roads, plus it cuts down on the use of salt, and saves maintenance companies plenty of money.

As if all the salt wasn't enough, we get very hot summers too so if you don't keep up on cleaning all that junk off the bottom of your vehicle it just destroys them.
Mud flaps are a must in this area, nobody wants any more bare metal (thanks to all the gravel) exposed to all that salt!

hmm... well they use the de-icer for snow also... well and sand... never seen any salt put down on the roads.

the de icer here eats my cars away ... I go skiing a lot and they use wayyy too much de icer and sand. im underlining my car right now1!!1

I've heard that de-icer is expensive (like $4/gal.) and I know that Ohio is cheap.
