I'd like to replace my extremely rusty old driveshaft with the used unit that's in better condition. Some of the information I've come across leads me to believe that you can't replace the bearing in the Cardan joint because the parts are unavailable. The shaft I have now has relatively low miles, 115k, so I am hoping that the Cardan is good, although I've never driven it. I'm imagining that swapping the one I have into a different driveshaft would be no more difficult than replacing the u-joints. Am I on the right track?

 

I have a Shop close to me that rebuilds those .

Pretty much cutting the old one off rebuilding it welding it back on .

It is the ball and socket that wears to the point of needing replaced

 

I heard that driveshaft shops have access to the parts for repairing the bearing. It also appears that the kit for the front shaft, which Northwest Offroad sells, doesn't work for the rear.

 

I do my own work and I have done U-Joints in my shop. I do not have a press and my welding skills are not good enough that I would trust my welds to hold for the stress a driveshaft go thru. Not much work I send out but a drive shaft shop is real reasonable and for any work I may have done. They have the tools to do it right and balance it. I dont mess with the drive shafts anymore and just have them done.
