Please help! Sputters at low RPM
I have a 1991 toyota pickup with a 22re that I got out of a 1990 pickup. The engine was bored out .040 over and has a bigger cam that I got from LC engineering. The cam is supposed to be able to run with the stock head. The truck sounds like it's loping at idle. Is it supposed to? I know a V8 lopes with a bigger cam, but a 4 cylinder? also it runs real rough and sputters when cruising at low RPM. Runs great at High RPM. My thoughts are a vacuum leak. My last question is, with the cam that I have, are the valve adjustments the same as stock? ex: 0.008 for intake and 0.012 for exhaust.

I know nothing about these cams, but I read on a previous thread that a guy had to reset his timing with the new cam. He couldnt ever get it to spec, so he had to do it by ear. Might want to search or ask previous cam owners.

I adjusted the timing by ear and got it running a little better but I noticed that when I'm driving and hit the brakes, the the engine dies down and almost stalls. When I am stopped and idling and hit the brakes it's fine.

Your surging is probably the tps sensor. Read this and it will help fix it. I just did mine and no more surge!
