I have a leak at the gasket of the first pic and i have replaced that gasket with rtv high temp twice already! I dont want to put too much because i end up seeing it in my radiator where i fill it.


And i know my radiator is leaking because when i spray water where the big circle is it foams and smells like anti-freeze. in the small circle you can see a little bit of A-freeze.


What should i do with that gasket area and my radiator????
Any suggestions?

for the leaky thermostat housing - you need dealer part #16341. Its an o-ring type gasket

as for the radiator, the choice i see is replacement of the radiator or see how good your luck is and see how long it takes to have a problem, which may eventually lead to a head gasket failure. Not what you wanted to hear, but what can i say

For the upper radiator inlet (not thermostat housing), did you dig out the old gasket material from the groove that is on the part that the hose attaches to? It has a groove that you need to clean out and then that is where you put the permatex.

X2. Proper preparation goes a long way. FWIW, I've been using regular RTV on my upper inlet for years. I've never had a leak.

Thanks guys. i think i was just doing that gasket to sloppy. and for the radiator, i think i'm just gonna buy one, anybody know how hard that is?? Thanks again!

Just take the radiator out & have it serviced...why buy a new one when you can probably have that one repaired for under $20?

I just had mine flushed, pressure tested & painted for $15 a week or two ago. The highest repair I've ever had on a radiator was $50 for my Dodge & it got chewed up by my fan! I would have sworn it was ruined but they were able to salvage it. It ran five or ten degrees warmer after that but that was the only difference.

As far as the upper inlet, clean & prepare the surface properly & don't over tighten the nuts. The rubber O-ring gasket works great but permatex will too.

When you use the RTV, make sure and let it set for a few hours before filling the radiator. Also, be very careful in the surface prep, dry and clean will assure you won't have any more leaks, in that area anyway.
