please help... another 3.0 disaster

hey guys.. looking for your help... i've searched the forums already and haven't found any real clear answers to my problems. i got a 95 3.0 V6 4runner... check engine light has been on for some time now ( about a month)... finally pulled the codes today and came across the all famous 25 and 26 combo... we are getting a gas smell from the exhaust pipe, truck idles a little rough at idle in drive... now here is where i can't find any answers... our coolant temp gauge stays at the Cold mark... even when its 75+ outside... before the temp problem, we had an intermittent code 25, but ever since this temp problem, the check engine light has been constant and now with code 26... help me out please...

Well, you definitely have a sending gauge issue....or the temp gauge (at the dash)...or just the wiring. That's easy enough to inspect, but it wouldn't affect how anything runs. How does it run? (Edit) Besides the rough idle?

I am not sure what the codes are, but let me guess, burnt valve?
My 3.0 was doing the same thing.

Stunk at idle from the gas not getting burned, and it idled rough.

Check the conection/wiring to the O2 sensor if that comes loose or whatever the check eng. light will come on and it can idle a little rough.
just a thought aviator

besides the rough idle its fine... once it starts moving and at any highway speeds we have no issues...

i didn't mention this but this is a california emissions vehicle... should i just change out to front 02 sensor and see what happens?

code 25 is 02 sensor I had the same issue replaced my cat and 02 and that seems to have worked cleared the cel and all is good. also if you get the gas smell you should take the evap can and run water thru it to help make sure it is not saturated The owner manual states that.

not that I know of, BUT there are many telltail signs of a bag hg.

Coolant in oil
Loosing LOTS of coolant
Loss of compression in troubled area ( not THAT common )
white smoke from exhaust - when in early stages of failure you will see smoke when the engine is cold, once it heats up the engine will expand and seal the blown gasket
sweet smelling exhaust (coolant burning) ( usually goes hand in hand with white smoke)
