best brand to use would be toyota out of a 3.0 like the one you have. Just a heads up. If you are trying to squeeze more power out of your engine give up now. It will NEVER happen. good luck with the rebuild

there is also LC Engineering--they are more pricey but have what you need to get power out of the 3.0.
HOWEVER--i would look for a 3.4 and do the conversion and or start from there. From the get go you are like 40-50 ponies up.....

LCE is a Joke There Cams have loads of problems and there customer service os terible. They have no good parts IMO
Stay stock with all 3.0 parts not worth the money
Just my $.02

If you have the cash, drop a 3.4L in there. Its pretty close to a full on rebuild + block bore with your 3vze. You will be up like 30 ponies stock and better mpg's.
But I agree on weasy2k cams for the 3.0 if you rebuild
I don't think toyota sells oversized pistions...

I finally got around to taking my heads to the machine shop. While there I asked the thier motor builder what brand piston would be a good one to use. He said they have had good luck with the brand Rock. Has anyone used these?

Well the main thing is, i love to build engines, and I'm having a great time. I will keep a record of costs so the the next person has a idea of what they will be getting into. I guess with the engine out would be a great time to replace the speedo cable that doesnt work. Is this junkyard only part?

I am no guru but the 3.0L was advertised at 145HP the first year in my 88' brochures. It was also advertised as producing more horsepower with higher octane fuel due to auto advance timing. I have no notion of gas mileage effects but If I was going to do a 3.0L I think I would look at higher compression ratios. I had a somewhately built 3.0 once and it had 32" tires, headers, flow matched injectors etc. With the larger tires it had at least as much power as the stock on 31" tires, and probably a little more. but the torque wasn't all that impressive. To really shine, I think the 3.0 needs a blower or twin turbos.
My $0.00 worth.

Check out motorcrate engine sales (http://www.chspdx.com). They have a 3.0 that dyno'ed at 190 HP and 210 FTLBS torque. They do a cam regrind...222 duration and .400 lift and use bigger valves and hypereutectic pistons (don't know the comp. ratio) and balance the engine. I was told that the HP and torque ratings came from dyno'ing with stock fuel system.

The machine shop called Friday and one of my heads is cracked at a galley plug. Found a replacement after work (130.00) and hauled it over to them. Wasnt even the same head that blew the H.G.
