I have a 3vze out of a 94 4runner. The engine failed and the #4 piston is trashed. The engine has been rebuilt before it seems. The rod bearing is .025 and the piston has a 1.00 stamped on the face.

I have searched and can't seem to find out what the 1.00 signifies. Anyone know what that means?

That number really does not matter your sure it is 1.00 not .001

I could understand .001 when building engines at the factory they have all different piston sizes to match to the bores

One might have 3 different size pistons or more .001 .003 .004 as examples .

1.00 might mean something to who built the engine last time

Things all depend on a what size the cylinder bores clean up this time .

If your number 4 piston failed just how bad is the cylinder of number 4

 

The Cylinder walls are scratched pretty badly. I am going to call the machine shop this morning and see what they think.

I'm trying to figure out why the rings failed. The story was the car may have sat for a while after it was rebuilt. No way to know for sure.

1.00 means 1 millimeter oversize. this is equal to .0.0393701 in. Or for all practical purposes .040 inch oversize.

The rod shell marking of .25 is also a mm measurement. .25mm is .010 in.

Just talked to the machine shop. He confirmed that info and said the block is toast. Not even good for a core at this point.

Moving on to plan B
