I have a 93 Xtra Cab pickup. These came with a two piece driveshaft. I am in the process of putting a different engine in the truck and will be moving the engine/transmission back several inches. I will have to shorten my rear shaft and figure it would be easier to shorten/lengthen a single piece one and eliminate the pesky two piece unit.

So my question is:

Does anyone know which trucks came with single piece rear driveshafts and approximate lengths of those?

My goal is to find single piece one at a scrap yard and have it shortened (ideally, because thats cheaper) or lengthened to fit my application.

Any input is appreciated.

The single piece strength upgrade to the two piece. I had my driveshafts modified by Jessie at high angle drivelines. He helped me out, I explained what I was setting up. Told me best way to do and what to measure. I sent him a core, he set it up with heavier material and balanced. I've been happy with it.

I just measured a one-piece from an 86 extra cab I parted out. If I cleaned the gunk off I could probably forcibly collapse it to around 52.5", flange to flange.

muddpigg how much did that cost you? I would rather have a new one made, and will eventually for sure. I just am a little tight for cash at the moment.

I've gotten driveshaft from the 3rd gen 4runners, they have the double cardon shaft from the factory I believe they are 50". Just get one of those and get it retubed, my local shop charged me $100 and I got the shaft for $50 so that is a win in my book. The plus is that the newer trucks use larger flange bolts for more strength.

Sorry, I don't remember the exact price but I felt it was reasonable but I also had to pay round trip shipping. I would think with a longer wheelbase you'll be fine with a single cardigan style shaft.

Downside of being a transient lifestyle is I don't usually have connections to know who can do the the work I want to the quality I want. So I'll pay shipping to have someone with a great reputation for what I want do the job. Plus many shops will charge more if you're not local. I've been bitten before.

Drive shaft guestion for whomever may know. I am taking an automatic tranny out of a 94 4x4 extra cab. Replacing it with a manual tranny. I hear I must change the drive shaft. Do I replace both front and back or just one or the other? Thanks for any information. Already have everything coming except the drive shaft.

I know that the front drive shafts are interchangeable because I am currently running the front driveshaft off of an automatic 4runner on my manual pickup. I am pretty sure that the automatic is longer than the 5 speed.... Any more of my input would be guesstimating.
