Parts Truck

I am planning on doing a cab swap on my 93 xtracab pickup, if I buy an 89 2wd xtracab will the cab and most other parts fit on my pickup?

I have not swapped that generation of cabs but everything should except fenders and marker lights. They will interchange but the 2 wheel and 4 wheel is different from each other.

The 2wd transmission tunnel will probably need to be reworked to clear the 4wd trans and T/C

Nope, I just completed this same swap. Even the wrecker told me they were different, but this is the third time I have used a 2wd cab on a 4x4 truck. Call cabs are exactly the same. Even in the 2nd gen. I have even swapped a 1983 Xtracab 2wd diesel automatic onto my 22RE 4x4 5spd. Only modification you will be required to do is to change over the e-brake cable on the cab as 2wd and 4x4 are different. Fuel lines on my 1989 had to be changed as there was differences but i think that was due to difference in year not 2wd vs 4wd. Also, you will need to cut the hole for the shiftier larger. to fit the t-case shifter.

Other rumors are that the cab mount height are different, they are not, they are the same. Also heard the shape of the inner fenders are different, not true, the inner fender I cut off my 2wd is the exact same as the one I welded on from a 4wd.

Just put the two cabs side by side and swap over anything that is different.

Note that the wiring harness will most likely be different in some way, so pull the dash, and pull the harness, swap over to the new cab. It will all bolt up exactly the same.

That is cool, I know they are different in the floor pan between 79-83 2WD and 4WD cabs

oh WOW

Excellent info

(tho Im not sure if this implies that you can use a Gen3 2WD cab (aka 1993) and bolt on the doors and fenders and make it an Gen2 body (aka 1988))
