Overheating Issue

So I have a 86 22re 4runner ran perfect until I changed spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, oil, and filter....then while driving on the interstate the temp would raise up to over halfway point. My question is first is normal at about a quarter way up? Second why would this happen with normal maintenance?
Also I noticed that when I pull the oil dipstick out while engine is running it bogs down a bit...put it back in and it races up to normal...is this normal?
Thanks in advance for help and I have been searching with no success for my issue.

Normal is dead center.
With a stock fan and proper cooling system (full fluid) it'll never move further up from there.
If it went higher up, check your coolant levels and burp the air out of the system. Search that.

Removing the dipstick while the engine is running, that's a no no.
Toyota engine have a (ventilated/positive or negative pressure) crankcase, all the pressure/vacuum leaks out when you do that.

Pulling the dipstick caused a big vaccum leak and that will cause problems just like previously mentioned.

You didnt advance your timing to much did you? That can cause it to overheat. I had my radiator professionally flushed as they get really dirty inside and that will help drop your temp down a little on the guage.

I have a local radiator shop in my area and you have to pull the radiator and they charge $25 to power flush it. You will be amazed at what comes out.

The dipstick issue sounds pcv related.
