is it possible to blow the head gasket if my truck overheated? it didnt overheat all the way, but it went right under the red part on the temp. gauge. it was right below the red when i shut the truck off. didnt even touch the line.

also, how do i fill the radiator to full? i filled it, ran it at idle for about 5 min., then filled it again, then ran it, etc. do i need to keep doing this so the thermostat opens for the water to flow thru the engine? or is there an easier way??

usually it will over heat if teh head gasket is blown, not blow the hg if it over heats. check the oil, what color is it? is there bubbles in it? the "disappearing water act" is also sign of a bad HG IIRC.

 

Also steamy exhaust and a nice sweet smell to the exhaust fumes.

 

But keeping the engine cooled properly I feel will help prevent head warpage which will protect your head gasket.

 

actually, there is no oil in the water, vice versa. the exhaust is ok with no water coming out.

i think it should be ok then. the HG and timing belt was replaced at 90k by prev. owner and it now has 130k.
