Opinion: Broken Valve/Piston Replacement

The old girl broke a valve and demolished the head and top of the piston. There is nothing wrong with the cylinder its self.

So my question is, after i get a new head would it be "ALRIGHT" (meaning will it work) if i just replace that one piston/rings after honing the cylinder?

I'm just trying to get it running again (i only owned it two months before this happened) and hopefully it has more power than before cuz it would struggle up hills and wouldn't do much over 30 mph uphill on the interstate. Which would mean there is a weak area somewhere in the engine.

thanks for your opinions and responses.

so the good idea would be to replace all pistons in the process then .. which works out cuz the kit comes will all of them and it will give me a chance to look at the bottom end of the engine where i suspect ill find a problem or two there also ..

was it because of a timing chain failure? You should be able to find 22re's everywhere, just stay away from the 22ret if you want to do a cheap swap, i bet you could scrounge the 22re up for 500 bucks, put a new timing chain on it and be on your way just make sure to pull the valve cover and make sure the timing chain hasnt ate into the head

if the timing chain went and ate through the timing cover (not head) he would have symptoms of a broken valve or busted piston, he would be thinking he had a bad head gasket.

No timing chain issues at all, i can post pictures .. honestly someone has been into this engine before and its pretty will easy to figure this out after taking it apart.

What happened is the intake valve on cylinder 2 broke and at 3000 rpm beat a hole through the piston and beat up the head.

So im going to replace the head and just kinda wanted a 22RE experts opinion on whether or not to go through the bottom end or not.

I have searched 22RE's and they are not going that cheap here in OKC. It is cheaper to rebuild ($250 for the rebuild kit, $100 for the tools i do not have, and $100 for the machine shop work).

I appreciate the replies tho guys thank you very much
