Yeah, the 12 bucks isn't a big deal. I just "figured" that all of the 4 cylinder engines they put in the 4runner's and pickups were the same.

Guess I didn't know what the difference between the 22r and 22re were.

I am actually trying out a very old Electronic Toyota Parts Catalog someone posted here and even though it's weird to use, I think I can confirm that the camshaft you purchased will indeed fit your truck (22R as well as 22RE). The part number should be 13511-38011.

If you PM me your VIN, I could probably make sure, but this catalog is seriously awkward to use .

Let me know...

Yea IIRC the 22R and RE are identical longblocks, its just whats outside that is different.

That's all the models this camshaft fits IF I got the right part number, which I think I did.

So you gonna keep the shaft once it arrives and try to install it?

all cams are interchangeable between the 20R/22R/22R-E etc.

Not sure yet. My plan for right now is to drain the coolant out of the engine (including the "block coolant" using the block drain) and swap out the cam in my engine without comprimising the head gasket.

Cam in my engine is junk.

Kinda of a long shot (swapping out the cam without wrecking the head gasket), but if it doesn't work, I'll simply press on with removing the head and have it redone at the local machine shop. Just have to try, though!!

Just a question, but how do you know that the CAM is junk?

lobes could've worn out or be badly scored.

But how do you know if they are bad without disassembling the engine?

The engine runs good........starts easily, idles fine, good power........runs the way a toyota should, however, the engine is kinda "loud". I popped the valve cover off and the camshaft lobes on a couple of the lobes (or whatever you call them), there is some "shiney" parts missing.

So for now, I simply want to see if I can get away with temporarily fixxing the engine. If I can swap out the cam for now and get the engine to quiet down, then I'll be happy.

If the cam I receive is serviceable, what else am I going to need (providing I can pull this off without the head gasket leaking)? What do you call them......"followers"? Is there a "pad" that rides on the camshaft lobe?

I'll be getting back into the engine shortly and can't remember exactly what it looks like, but it seems like I should be able to purchase something new that rides on the camshaft lobe.
