Oil pump question and pic of my engine.....

I've had my engine back from the machine shop for a while now, and due to an incredible back log on my "honey do" list, haven't had any time to work on it. But now, I see a little opening to get some work done on it.

Question: What are the little marks (believe one is a stamped triangle shape) on the oil pump gears? What are they for? Does it matter how the oil pump gears are situated? Thanks for any input.

Nice engine.

I couldn't find much about those gears. But you said "any input" so here goes. My Chilton does mention them in a similar oil pump on the 2L/2LT diesel, which I assume I'm not looking at there(?). The gears must be very close to the same because it states that "Clearences are checked in the same manner as the pump used in the 20R, 22R, and 22RE engines." Then it explains installation.

"To install:

Install the gears with the triangular shaped markings of each gear facing the pump plate side of the timing case.

Install pump cover plate."

If that makes any sense. Good luck.
