oil pan removal on 1-ton RWD pickup

Thread title should be "RWD" not "FWD", my mistake. I recently replaced the head, timing chain and related front end components on my 1987 1-ton pickup (22re) RWD. I left the oil pan in place. Now I have an oil leak at the timing cover/oil pan interface. I used RTV gray but apparently I didn't do a good job. I can't see any oil other than what's on the very front of the pan so I'm pretty sure it's just the oil pan gasket that's at fault.

My question concerns how much I need to remove to replace the oil pan. This is a pickup with heavy suspension components - it's a camper/RV on a '87 pickup (yea, with a 22re...). The sway bar is 25mm diameter, but other suspension components are less common being a 1-ton RWD dually so I'm not sure if there are any special techniques specific to this kind of model in term of getting the oil pan out.
I suspect that I should plan to remove the 25mm sway bar (and replace associated bushings and link as they appear to be original). Is the sway bar under tension or is it pretty straight forward to remove it? I should also plan to remove the crossbar (4 bolts). I will likely also have to lower the steering components by removing the three bolts on the idler arm bracket. I hope to do it all from the bottom and not mess with the motor mounts or raising the engine in any way. Does anyone see any obvious problems with my approach or is this pretty straight forward?
