oil pan

Hello
I'm new to the site. It's awesome. Very helpful. This is my first post, I want to say I searched and didn't come up with anything.

This is my first 4runner. It's a 95 3.0, this coming weekend I'm going to tear open the oil pan and do some revealing and I wanted to know if you guys had any pointers on what else I should do while I'm in there. Is there something I'm going to regret not doing whilst the diff is dropped?Any kind of pointers would be great. I got the 4runner for a steal, but I knew it wawas going to come with some headaches.

Just why do you feel the need to remove the oil pan??

If you have a oil leak that is different.

Yes you can see the bottom of the cylinders .

If you start pulling the main and rod caps to look at bearings you could be getting into more work then you want .

While they can be changed with the engine in the truck once was more then enough for me.

So the problem is the other day I poured a quart of oil in to check somesome leaks. But when I got under the vehicle all of the oil was basically pouring out. I crawled under and from what I could see, the oil pan has two little ridges protruding out (i know that makes no sensesense) but it seemed as if it was coming from there. I'll take pics soon.

Did you some how put a hole in the oil pan??

If it just came out you had to have had a oil leak for some time .

Are you sure it was oil on the floor??

Even with a real bad oil pan gasket leak the oil level should be well below the top of the oil pan.

looking forward to seeing pictures.

Generally speaking I think when there is oil coming from that edge of the oil pan flange where it kind of bows out all the way around at the gasket/seal point it's something besidse the oil pan itself. In my case it's the rear main seal leaking down onto the lip of the oil pan, then running down and leaking off the plug area.. I'd get up underneath there with some degreaser and clean the bottom half of the engine off and see where it's really coming from for sure.. It could be the front or rear crankshaft seal, or something else..

doing the front seal requires you drop the front differential (4wd), drain oil, remove timing belt, crankshaft timing pulley, and I think after that you can remove the seal from the front of the oil pump body.. It's pretty involved and I don't think the oil pan has to be off. mine is leaking in the front and I'll be tackling that after I get the transmission put back in..

If you want the FSM PM me
