Oil cocktail conundrum
I was going through my garage, & found one quart of Quaker State 5w20 conventional, two quarts of "Q Power" (Quaker State) 10w30 synthetic, one quart of Valvoline Max Life 10w40 conventional, & one quart of Supertech (Walmart) 5w30 high mileage conventional = 5 quarts total.
I'm due for an oil change on my Yota in a few weeks here..... would it be alright to throw all of it in there? I change it every 3-4k miles. I'm currently running Valvoline 10w30 synthetic blend.
Opinions?

I would not do that unless you were stranded in the middle of a desert and had to add oil to drive out of there. And even then, I would hesitate to do that.
NEVER mix synthetic with conventional oil!
Just pay the $20 - $30 for the proper oil. We're talking about the health of your motor after all!

My cousin has tried this in his explorer, and while I'm not exactly sure what he put in, synthetic and conventional got mixed. It ran fine, and that was a few years ago. I had always thought it was a terrible thing to do, and while I still wouldn't do it, I'm not exactly sure of the reasoning behind it.
On a somewhat related topic, he also tried running generic, non-detergent oil (the kind that says "DO NOT USE UNLESS MANUFACTURER REQUIRES DETERGENT FREE OIL" on the bottle) in his '99 civic. It lasted three oil changes ("It always drained out clear!") before the motor lost oil pressure due to sludge.

Why did he do that? Was he trying to destroy the motor? Or was he just trying to prove the manufacturer wrong?
I would say he got lucky on his explorer. I won't ever mix the two either. I could dig out my old notes and probably see why it's not recommended to mix them. I'll see if I get the time later on today.
