yes, you could buy anything but fram. many for the same price, all with far superior performance...

ps. every oil filter has an antidrainback valve like you describe, but fram's doesn't seal very well. everyone else's seems to do just fine...so much for no dry starts.

You might consider a remote filter kit, it the present location is that difficult for you, or you don't like the oil leaking on the block and crossarm. If the filter is on too tight, wrap a strip of sandpaper about 3 X 8 long around the filter, it will give you more grip to turn the filter by hand. Unless you have very big arms, you should be able to access the filter from directly in front of the battery.
