when I first picked my truck up it had some old wheels and tires that I ditched pretty quickly. I wanted an OEM set of wheels for it but couldn't find any in my area and I refused to ship them. reference picture one. I had a buddy who ended up getting me a set BUT the kicker was, he had them powder coated which I was super happy about but that were better than nothing. I had been running them ever since. a few weeks ago I saw a set of tires for sale on CL and low and behold, they were mounted on the OEM SR5 wheels I wanted. guy sold them to me for 150 bucks, 4 wheels and 4 BFG K/O tires (32') which I promptly sold for 200 bucks. so, I now have wheels and 50 bucks. I picked up some aircraft stripper, scrubby pads, and metal polish. a few coats of the stripper got off the old peeling clearcoat, and the metal polish and one expensive drill attachment, which I destroyed, got them pretty darn nice. I accidently deleted the [picture of what I started with, but heres the finally.
what i started with, yes the truck has much bigger issues than the wheels haha powder coated wheels i didnt like, new cleaned up wheels mounted
it took two quarts of air craft stripper to get the factory clearcoat off and even then I had to scrub it. I used the whole bottle of polish and absolutely destroyed a 35 dollar mothers wheels polisher haha. they still didn't come out flawless but they look good enough for my junk haha
Wheels turned out really good. I've heard of folks powdercoating those wheels in silver to keep the OEM look but have the protection of the powdercoat. Just a thought.

I did two cans of gloss wheel clear coat to try and keep a little shine
Those look pretty good. Brownells (google it) sells a product called semi-chrome that we use in the gunsmithing industry. Some of that and a GOOD polishing wheel will make them look like chrome. If that's what you want. Ive had good luck using Flitz polish before the semi_chrome and plain old aluminum wheels look like they are chrome wheels. But those look good. You can make them shine more if you want.

I wouldn’t be a very good southerner if I hadn’t ordered few parts from the Brownells catalogue over the years. I just finished putting together a short barrel Marlin .45-70 trapper with help from them.

Yes good folks to do business with. Ive been building custom guns in my shop for over 40yrs. I doubt my pickup could haul off all the parts Ive bought from them.
actually I used this product, it works very well if used correctly, I used a small brush to "paint" it on and let it sit until I visually saw the clearcoat start to crinkle. wash, rinse, repeat until satisfied.
