Odd Noise

So i have a 95 4Runner and when i am moving quickly on a rough road, such as a dirt road, there is a odd clunking noise commung from the driver side wheel well area. this only happens when i hit a bump or a pot hole. and advice would be great.

It could also be a bad ball joint. Jack the front end of the truck up, stabilize it, and start checking all the ball joints for play.

My bet would be on CV axles, but does it happen in 2wd? You should check for leaks around the CV boots, and also check for play in them. Another thing you can do is put the truck in 4 wheel drive, lock the hubs, back up about 15 feet and then go forward. When driving forward, if you hear the clunk, you could have some play in the axles.

Also, I had a weird clunk noise as well, coming from the front passenger fender. Turned out it was a misaligned passenger door clunking against the fender on bumps. So check for panel alignment as well.

Good luck!

Probably something going on with a shock. Does it make any noise in a turn?

I don't know about Toyota trucks but brake calibers will make that noise on a Ford.
