o-ring in oil pan!!!!!!!

o-ring in oil pan!!!!!!!

I've got a question. I have a 89 pickup with a 22re and the guy I bought it form said when he dropped the oil pan to rebuild it he found what looked like pieces of an old dry rotted o-ring. Does anyone know where it could have come from.

Might be part of your timing chain guides. If they are overtorqued the round plastic part around the bolts crack and fall into the oil pan.

how big was the o-ring?
small o-rings could be anything from injector seals to the chain tensioner, oh maybe even valve seals or from the oil filter (though it's more of a square or 'd' ring)
... and there's even an o-ring around the oil pump.

I don’t know the size of it but I did have to replace the valve seals the other day cause the were falling apart...lol... I don’t see how it would have gotten in the oil pan though. The guy I bought it from replaced the chain and the guides when he rebuilt it, so I don’t think it could have come from the guides. I had the injectors out before and the seals were still there. I just put a new head on it last weekend because somehow I warped two valves and broke a valve guide in half. I think I had my valves adjusted too tight. Everything looked ok except the pistons were a little loose in the cylinders. You could just barely rock them back and forth. Is that normal for a yota. I've built tons of Hondas and have never seen that before. I guess ill do a compression test this weekend just to see if it’s good. I runs good though, and has no abnormal sounds.

a little 'rock' is okay as long as the slugs aren't scoring the walls and the rings are sealing fine

The walls looked good. Ill find out saturday if the rings are sealing good.

I've checked that also and its still there.. I guessing it was from the valve seals or some dumb ass could have let a plastic ring from a quart of oil fall in when adding oil or something..lol

Isn't there a quarter-sized o-ring between the dist and the head?

It was dropped down one of the oil passages when the engine was apart before. I've seen EVERRYTHING in the oil pan of these engines. I lost a head bolt (the short one) & think I lost it down an oil passage. As long as it makes it INTO the oil pan, all is good; it won't be coming back up from there.

Well I tested the compression today and Cylinders 1,3,and 4 had a even 150 and there was no compression at all on cylinder 2

ZERO compression usually means one of the valves is FUBAR.

I would have thought that if I hadn’t just replaced the head. Here’s the story: I was driving my truck up hill and it lost power and started ticking and smoking. Not a rod knocking sound but a valve. Also it would shoot the dipstick out and oil will go everywhere. So I pull the valve cover and see that almost all of the valve seals were busted. When I took off the intake mani there was a ton of oil in it. When I took the spring off the number 1 cylinder intake valve the valve guide was broke in half and the valve was bent. Also the cylinder number 4 intake valve was bent. So I said the hell with it and got another head and put on it. I go to start it and it starts and idles perfect every time I start it, but when I go to take off it has no power at all and it still shoots oil out the dipstick. Also I can take the oil cap off and im getting blow-by like crazy. So I’m kind of leaning towards the rings or a hole in the piston, but I didn’t see one when I had the head off the first time.

Well I figured it out. I tore it apart and I have a huge chunk broke out if my #2 piston where the rings go. I kind of figured that since I saw pieces of it when I took off the oil pan.. Luckily it didnt hurt the cly wall. Got new pistons,rings and bearings on the way..
