my 89 22 re 4x doesnt heat up to where it should be. the needle moves about 1/4 at the very most up the temp gauge....and I have a fuuuuunny feeling this has something to do with my heater not blowin so warm....and I need that sucker to, Im in boise,id.its a lil cold out.\

where should i be stickin my nose at on this problem? im kinda lost.

also, I pulled my engine codes a while back and got one for a knock sensor... I found the sensor today and the wire is mostly gone. their is wire comin off the sensor to a connector, which both M and F ends are attached, just no lead off the connector. where does the other end of the wire run? im assuming somewhere to the harness?

On the operating temp of vehicle,have u tried replacing the thermostat?

 

no i havent. its been parked for awhile and I havent even really touched it since. untill sunday. I wrastled up a accelerator cable finally and got it runnin.

and this is where im at now.

none yet.its been a cold drive to work....been busy with work and school startin back up. makin time in my schedule this weekend to take a crack at it.

I had the same problem with mine, engine running cold. So I changed the thermostat earlier today. Usually when thermostats stop working they dont open, and the engine overheats. So this was different.
Because I did not see anything wrong with the old thermostat, I boiled them together on the stove and too my surprise the old one opened way sooner then the new one.
The process of changing the thermostat was about 1 hour.

Advice: be careful not to damage the rubber seal on the rim of the thermostat. You will problably reuse it.

 

Huh? It's like a fifty cent item from the dealer. And t-stats from the dealer are inexpensive enough for me to buy there as well. Many parts store t-stats are crap in comparison.

 

i changed the t stat yesterday...i mean actually put one in.The PO didnt have one in. DOH!

it blows warm air but cools a bit at cruising speeds( 65 mph on the freeway), is this normal for older yotas?

also, where does the knock sensor hook up to? I found it, their is a wire and connector coming off of it, but it ends at the connector. and I have no idea where it goes to...

For an older Yota, I would say yes. Yet, in my '93 I would be sweating in a t-shirt cruising at 65mph when it was -40F ........Best heater ever.

Try putting a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator when you go on longer drives. I notice a significant difference at the same temp when I do this. Just dont forget to remove it when it gets warmer!

 

ahhhh the old bum house cardboard mod. I'll try it out tomorrow. next few days are supposed to be cold.
