Talking Not to cold for CB install!

Well it may be to cold to install and drive around with a bikini top. It wasn't to cold to install the new Cobra 19 and 3' firestik I also got for X-mas. Actually I got two Cobra's, one for the FJC and one for the 4runner. I mounted the CB under the radio. I located the antenna where the radio antenna is supposed to be. I enlarged the hole to fit the mount I made for the CB antenna. I use the CD in the radio mainly and I still get local stations with out the radio antenna. So thats no issue. Here are some pics.

I still need to get a spring in there.

cool =) I got the same gift xmas 06

heres mine

It didnt interfere w/ peoples legs with my old bench but the 4runner buckets put your knees a bit closer so im going to be moving it between the seats when i make a center console (whenever that happens)...

i mounted my cb antenna here tho: (back of the toolbox)

used 18' of coax (RG-8x) and tuned the SWR w/ a meter (adjusting the length of the antenna).

I've read conflicting debates on the 18' of coax but i did it anyway. It's something to do w/ using enough cable to get the sinewave (signal) to reach the antenna or the CB at the middle of the sinewave where the voltage is zero. Then I've read different coax cables have a different Velocity Factor, ie resistance which slows down the signal by a percentage. And no cable is perfect so people say 18' only works if the cable were perfect and had no VF.... When infact the signal gets to zero in less feet of cable. For best tuning/reception supposivedly. Im no expert. My CB works fine.

** This inspired me to read up again on coax and CB's hehe. Interesting articles

heh even been discussed on YT https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f97/...th-coax-86346/

Although I can't find a picture of how to coil the excess coax PROPERLY. only vague descriptions of if you dont coil it "correctly" you can cause a RF choke?

anyone have a picture of how to PROPERLY coil the coax? I might have mine coiled wrong.

**found this... finally a decent description. check the replies

Well you don't coil it into a circular loop. You "fake" it out. Kinda like a loop but long sections, kinda like wrapping it around your hand and elbow. Why not just cut it to the correct length and remove the excess, and buy a PL-259 connector at Radio Shack and solder it on? You also don't need that 18' length of cable if you have a tunable antenna. I assume you are running a 1/4 wave whip antenna? I have been into CB's for many years, and I work with HF, VHF, UHF, SHF, and EHF communications in the military. I use base loaded antennas on both my trucks since they are tough and easy to tune. I use this one on my trucks http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2102661

CBs are sweet. I dont like the wire showin on yours though. Is there anyway you could wire it to something else? The antennas cool too. The antenna on my truck hangs and hits the wheel, and I still get radio stations. Gotta love toyota.

What wire are you seeing? If its the one coming out of the sig. litter, thats for the flash lite I have charging behind the center console.
