Normal Idle Speed

Ok Im a newbie... thanks for your patience. Im used to driving 84-93 Nissans, my beater truck, and found that my "new" 89 yota 4x4 v6 is light years ahead of those vehicles. I'm just getting used to my toyota, and want to feel confident driving it for what I'm using it for - launching a boat and don't want to get stuck on the ramp with a dead truck.

question: when I first started driving the truck, it seemed to normally idle in neutral (5spd) at around 1500 rpms. I was out driving around yesterday, and the idle in neutral suddenly dropped to about 900-1100 rpms. Noticeable drop. Is this normal? I actually took it home right away because - see above - Ive had Nissans that have left me stranded - and don't want to get stuck at a red light.

I have only put about 200 kms on the truck so Im really just feeling it out. Is this the ECT valve or sensor doing its job?

Regular idle at running temp is around 700-1100 rpm. High cold idle is anywhere from 700 to 2000 depending on temp. sounds fine.
