disconnect the shift selenoid harness. This bypasses the the selenoids and allows you to shift manually. L is 1st 2nd is 2nd and D is fourth. If it drives fine with the selenoids unplugged then it is an electrical problem.
Where was it rebuild? Honestly I would rather have a used higher mileage toyota trans than a rebuilt one. Few places can actually rebuild a toyota trans in the US. If its not an electrical problem take it back to whoever rebuilt it and and tell them to do it right or get your money back. good luck

what i meant to say is that there are probably very few shops in the US than can rebuild it CORRECTLY. I could rebuild a 340h if I wanted to. Odds are it wouldnt be correct though. Would you take a 22r or a 3vze to and shop to be rebuilt? I wouldnt.

thats seems to be a theme with this truck...
just replaced the driver side window swithc because the window wouldnt roll up.... now if you press the door lock button nothing happends, the window lockout switch turns the clock off and on. the driver window up doesnt do anyhting, driver window down locks the doors, pass window down doesnt do anything pass window up will unlock the doors but only if you at the same time press the window lock out button again (and trun off the clock) if you dont press the window lockout at the same time it doesnt do anything.

There is NOTHING special, weird, requiring special sauce or anything else really odd about these trannies.
It's a straight forward little tranny that isn't a big deal.
For the life of me I can't understand why you think differently.
We've rebuilt CORRECTLY a good handful of 'em in my shop.
As you probably know (not
), they aren't even a Toyota tranny, but rather an Isuzu tranny, properly called the AW30-80 LE....The AW30-80LE is a rear wheel drive, four speed, electronically controlled transmission.
Internal components consist of a lock-up TC, oil pump, 5 multi-disc clutch packs, 1 brake band and three planetary gear set. The valve body includes electronic solenoids for shift control that are controlled by a TCU. A throttle cable is used for line pressure control.
Would you take a 22r or a 3vze to and shop to be rebuilt? I wouldnt.
Why not ?
People do it all the time.
Nothing magic about either of those engines either.

just as someone suggested, take the trim off that is around the shifters and you will find the TCU. Disconnect the TCU and from then on, L-1st, 2-3rd, and D-4th without TC lockup.
you will no longer have 4L unless you put the truck in 4L with everything completely off and then cranking it back up.

You know the hardest part of rebuilding the tranny was overcoming the notion that autos are hard to rebuild. I've heard that time and time again. The fact is it wasn't that bad. If you can rebuild a motor comfortably, chances are you'll find rebuilding an auto not very difficult. There are lots of pieces to be sure. But it's just a matter of keeping things organized and being methodical in your work.
