Noob Backspacing question and wheel choice

Well, I'm looking at getting some new rims for my 4Runner. I know I want something with less backspacing (I want to say stock on my alloys is 4.75?). I was thinking about getting some generic black steelies from procomp. I was just wondering how much backspacing would be good though. I was looking into getting a 15" x 8" rim to run either a 12.5" wide tire or a 10.5" wide tire. I have the options of either 3.75" backspacing or 2.5" backspacing. What would be better? Would less backspacing add more stability or would it just look weird having the tires stick out that far? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Andy

Tires sticking out too far look like poop IMO, why the steelies? I know they are cheap but why don't you get some tacoma wheels and black them out or another year runner.

I just can't stand the steelies they are on EVERYTHING and everything's brother

unless of course you plan on beating them up they are the most logical choice.

Ha i understand discombobulated. my reason for backspacing would be that I need more space upfront between my upper A arms and the tires after doing a BJ spacers.

1st gen about 3.75" works well

Wheel spacers work well too but cost as much as steelies.

I agree. I love the stock alloys. Mine were terribly pitted so I ended up rattle canning em black. I was thinkin of either getting new stock alloys and shining em up really nice or just sanding mine down again and getting them painted really really well. I just need something with more backspacing or a wheel spacer to give myself a little more room. In the end, either option will be the same price.

That's what I had seen. I'm just in a limbo between buying new rims all together or just buying spacers. The cost is practically exactly the same. So 2.5" would be too little backspacing though? would it just look weird?

I'm running 2.5" backspacing with spacer in the front SAS and a IFS rear with black steelies so when I bend the ˟˟˟˟˟ out of them, its cheap to replace. On-road you may have too much tire sticking out. Off-road gives you nice wide stance and plenty of clearance.
Use a torque wrench on spacers with plenty of lock-tight...

Thanks for the advice. If i do end up sticking with my stock rims, would you recommend 1.5 inch spacers or 3 inch spacers? In Denver, I don't have to worry too much about the tire sticking out too much.T I have a few friends who have trucks that have their tires hanging out and have had no trouble at all. My 4Runner is my DD as well as my weekend rock crawler.

That would be great Discombobulated. I'll definitely put an add in the wanted section. I'm off at school right now in Oklahoma, but if they have any, I could probably pick em up when I'm home here in a few weeks for thanksgiving. On another note, if you ever want to hit some trails in Denver, let me know, and we could do some wheelin together.
