noisy 3.0

I recently completed a head gasket replacement and now I get a noise from what sounds like the exhaust it on the right side of the motor I had the heads looked at by a local shop that does all the head work for basically every one in town and has a very good rep. I would appreciate any suggestions on what it could be. A mechanic friend of mine says lifter but where would I have a lifter its an overhead cam and the valves dont have lifters according to the head I looked at as it came off the truck.

are all the exhaust bolts tight cause some of them are tricky to get to and you may just have bad exhaust leaks

I was working on a 3vz a while back that had an exhaust noise coming from the right (passenger) side of the engine. It turned out that the emission controls were not attached to the exhaust, causing a huge exhaust leak. Assuming yours is the same as the one I worked on, make sure the bolts for the EGR and the air suction valve are tight.

yea i know from putting headers on that those exhaust bolts are just a pain to get on and tighten fully, im gonna assume its just an exhaust leak your getting from the top of the exhaust manifold, sometimes it helps to use the gasket and then like a liquid gasket sealer to help prevent that from happening

thanks ive tried tightening them down to spec the only thing I can think of is that the studs were not in completely before I tightened the nuts. Also am I correct in saying that there are no lifters in the 3vze?

Noise

I had a noise coming from the passenger side of my 3.0 engine, it turned out to be the reed valve. I had a hell of a time pin pointing it, the screws on the reed valve came loose and made a noise like an exhaust leak.
