noise when 4x4 is engaged
Hi guys, I have a question for you, I am getting significant noise (rubbing/clunking) when I switch into 4x4 with hubs (warn manual locking hubs) engaged. It's on the passenger side nearer to the front. Noise goes away completely when I switch back into 2wd. I checked the CV joint on the passenger side and the rubber is cracked (big chunk out of it, see below). Would that be an explanation for the noise I'm hearing? Thanks for any advice or thoughts. I am wondering whether this represents a potentially big repair bill if I take it to the stealer. Thanks again

that's probably where I start first... seeing as the axles don't have load most of the time and you're getting noise (from somewhere) once you engaged 4x4
either way, get that fixed before it's too late... really dried up CV joints can explode and can take everything out around them... they're a hazard!

id say thats your problem definitely needs replacing. you have to pull that drive shaft an get a new boot also, it should come with a bag of grease to fill in there. that boot gets tore open then the grease flings out, then drive shafts bang around=bad deal have you had this truck long? if not id check front diff gears to make sure theyre not chjattered either thatd suck to replace one thing an not fix the whole problem
