Noise from heater core

It sounds like there is air in my heater core. Whenever I accelerate I hear what seems like a gurgling coming from behind my dashboard heater core area. Ive tried getting the air out of the system by running the engine with the rad cap off. Ive also tried flushing out the heater core by disconnecting the input and output hoses and sending water through. But the gurgling persists. Any sugestions?

The gurgling can be an indication that you are low on coolant. To get rid of the noise, fully warm up your engine by driving it hard for 5-10 min, park it facing uphill (or jack the front end a foot in the air). Carefully open the rad cap with a towel (yes, some will spray out, hence the towel) with the engine running, and poor as much coolant in the open rad as will go and just let it run with the heater on full for a couple minutes. Top up the rad, put the cap back on, top up the overflow reservoir and the noise should disappear.

If you are not low on coolant, your heater core is plugged. Same problem on my '89 4Runner, and its due to a plugged heater core.

could have a leak someplace. does the heat smell like pancakes? if it does your heater core is leaking i bet. my headgasket was leaking and forcing air in the cooling system when mine did this.

In all likelihood, you're just low on coolant and there's nothing to worry about. It doesn't hhave to be very low at all to make noise.
