no power and rough idle when raining

87 4runner. It only happens when it is raining. If it is just sitting in the rain, and I start it, it runs rough like a bad plug, and when i try and drive it , no power, just boggs down like a bad air or fuel filter. 24 hours after the rain quits it runs fine. New plugs, wires, air and fuel filter, O2 sensor, vacuum lines, dist. cap and rotor. TIA. Robert

Just a thought, but check your negative battery cable. Is it grounded well?

HuskyRunner I'll clean it in the morning. That is the only ground I have not cleaned. Thanks for the help. Robert

I have seen posts on here that said to put a new gasket between the distributor cap and distributor if it runs rough when it rains. Moisture getting in there does that.

Its a dealer item only I think. I ordered one a few years back and never picked it up...whoops. Thanks for reminding me!

Here's a good article I read recently that might be of some help.

Hmmm.. Sounds like a good idea, I might just do it for the heck of it.

I have the exact same problem. If I run it for 5-10 min. to dry it out, it runs fine, but until then it won't rev, skips, won't shift and almost stalls going up hill. I have changed the wires, distributor cap and rotor and the problem continues.I did not see any gasket with the new cap or on the distributor. I'll try to find a dealer for the gasket and report back if that fixes it.
By the way, that link to the article above no longer works. Does anyone know where to get it?
