I doubt if it's coolant sensor... A coolant sensor could make you run rich - or less likely lean, but it's not very likely.

Are you misfiring? If you think it's fuel related, monitor your 02 sensor output - voltmeter is fine - I think you can tap in on the diagnostic port - and report what happens.

How are you testing injectors? Can you fire them with them on the rail? Normally you've got to have a test setup to see how well they atomize.
If they're really not flowing well, could be fuel pressure / filter.. But at this point, it would help to know if you're rich/lean.

Just curious, I heard somewhere that Toyota fuel filters were NEVER meant to be changed. Read an article on it or something, looked prety legit... however this was right after i replaced my fuel filter, which fixed my bog-down-on-acceleration woes.... anyone else ever heard of this no change filter rubbish??

so i just got off the phone and the shop talked to some people and think the tranny converter is shot, but you need to pulll it to measure it and see what one you have, but anyways the tranny shop said that in the early 90's they used a 2 part shifting mechinism with a checkvalve and they tend to get "clogged" which is why in low range itll run like a bat outta hell and when you put it in high it wont "have any go power" they said even know the truck just had all this tune up work done to it, it kept fowling out plugs and sensors cause of the restriction, which is why it wouldnt want to start easy, so before i pay another shop to do more work and pull my tranny, do you guys think this may be it????????????????

I doubt it is the transmission, as do you.

When you first had the problem, and, after warmup, what RPM did you see at idle?

hey there, I have a 90 4runner that I just slapped in an engine from a 93. unfortunatly we are talking about the 3.slow, I am experiencing the same type of problems. We got everything back together yesterday and once fired up it ran beautifuly, after the initial puffs of smoke "probably from sitting for a few months and new exhaust gaskets" everything cleared up.

I reaplaced a brake line that was damaged during the install and attempted to go for a test drive, keep in mind I said it was running awsome. once i put it in drive there was VIRTUALY NO power. we double and tripple checked everything top to bottom we found a very small fuel leak under the intake. a few turns of the wrench later we thought this may have been fixed.

as you may have guessed, this was not the soul problem. we called some people in the know and so far we are thinking torque converter.
I am taking it to a shop today. I will let you know what I have found out.
thanks and good luck.

So you are saying it lacks power because the transmission feels like it is slipping?

90 4runner with the 93 engine...
not at all. it seems to bog down as if the e brake was on. I know it isn't the e brake because i am able to put it around in nutral with no problem.

I took it by a trany shop and the assured me that if it was the trany or torque converter that it wouldn't move at all. Something about if the torque converter was damaged than it wouldn't allow fluid to return to the trany and the pump would burn out. It makes sense to me but now i am back at square one.

I did how ever hear a new nois coming from the power steering area when i push the brakes. After i get off work today i am going to replace the vacuum lines coming off the power steering and see if that helps anything.
thanks again for any segustions.
