No power

got a 94 22re 4x4 seems to be low on power. the head was redone along with the clutch, but even before that seems to have no balls.

my buddy has a 93 2wd and it seems to have more balls, and he has bigger tires too.

everything on mine is stock (tires, motor, etc...)

my engine has 130k and burns almost a quart a week. thinking about just swapping my motor out. anything i can check or should do before that?

possible problems? burned two headgaskets this year, i just wanna have something troublfree

there are links to the Factory Service Manual near the beginning of the thread list of this forum.
The information you need can be found by following those links.

new update to this.

timing is good
compression is 180 on all 4 cylinders.

so being my compression is good and i have an oil burning issue where would that lead me to?

also i have a CEL for the EGR valve, could that be a cause of low power?

on some hills from a start the truck struggles a bit...sometimes gotta roll back to the bottom and start over.

Sounds like you need some routine maintenance done.

Leaking valve seals - drips oil down the valve stems but the valves still making good contact in the valve seats. autohausaz.com sells nice japanese Ishino seals for $3.50 a pop.

also i have a CEL for the EGR valve, could that be a cause of low power?
Not likely - just means the egr valve is prob not opening when it should, leading to higher combustion temps, more nox formation, possible pinging. Also not good for exhaust valves.

How old is the cat? Burning that much oil, maybe it's clogged. Would certainly account for no power.

How do your spark plugs look? Some info on reading them:

Injectors clean? Throttle body clean? Fuel pressure okay? ECT, TPS & VAFM all check out per fsm specs?

If you have checked to make sure valves are adjusted to specs, you might want to check the Throttle Position Sensor. There is a great link on this forum that saved my butt. http://4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/index.shtml

Sounds more like you are leaking oil than burning it, any burning should show up on the plugs.
