no oil pressure

Looking for tips on where to start looking. I rebuilt a 1989 22r. Complete rebuild... bearings, pistons and rings, cam etc. It has a brand new oil pump, no issues there... or shouldn't be. But I have the oil light on... bought a mechanical guage and it reads 0 psi. Unplugged.. no oil comes out the guage hole. Where did I mess up? What should I check first?

Did you prime the oil pump with oil, or grease the pump internals when you assembled the engine?

I did not grease the pump but I did crank it with no plugs in for quite some time. Fired it up and 0 on the pressure gauge. Can I prime the pump some other way? Removing the sensor I can blow air in and it comes out the oil filler cap, so no blockage..... Did I maybe forget a gasket on the pickup? Or is it something in the oil pump? Just wondering what to tear apart first.... Ugggg....

Seems I've heard that the pump can be primed thru the pressure relief passages on the pump, after removing the spring and piston, without taking everything apart. Haven't done this myself.
I'm sure someone with direct experience will chime in here.

You did make sure that the key was placed on the crank snout that engages the oil pump drive spline???

Its one of those things where you start second guessing everything you did. I am sure I did put the oil pump on right...... but did I? Obviously something is wrong....

Hey Mods, can you move this to it's proper section, I see while not on my phone this is not where a tech question should be.
