Was upgrading 2000 4Runner to OME; used the slightly saggy stock springs for my brothers '88. Works great. I would imagine these are available dirt cheap from guys upgrading their 3rd gen.

EDIT: we used the rears from the 2000. Just to be clear.

About another hour before I get to see if my springs showed up. Hopefully they did, so I can get them in.

Well, The springs were delivered today via UPS. And in about 1 1/2 hours I had them installed. They gave me about 3" of lift from my sagging stock springs. They worked great. I had to compress them a lot with Spring compressors. They fit well around the top bump stop. The bottom bump stop they have a little room around it on the inside, but seem to fit well. Here are some pix...

Before....

Inch and a half away from the bump stop.

AFTER...

Hope this helps those who were wondering about the Black Magic Springs on Ebay. The seller is really good and he knows what he is doing.

Well, the drive to work, a 40+ mile drive on construction plagued freeway, went well. It was like driving a totally different truck. It is a little stiff, but it is a truck, not a luxury car.

Thanks for the report dlucky894runner You report a "little stiff" which kinda surprised me as I figured a 125 pound rated coil would ride softer....but I understand the part about a totally different truck. I bet you can feel the rear actually absorbing the bumps now. Profile of the runner looks great....I see equal air under the front and rear fenders

Well, I guess stiff isn't the right word, because like you said it is absorbing the bumps. I just have heard others say the ZUK was too soft, so I expected it to be a cushy soft ride. So, that is why I called them stiff. I like how it rides and looks. Thanks for the support and making this mod.

looks like checked back in at the right moment. you have made my mind up for me that I will be doing this mod the no-cut way. thanks for the convincing photos and testimony.

ZUK...thanks for monitoring this all the way too....your innovation has made quite an inexpensive but significant difference for many saggy-butts turning them to buns-of-steel.

Glad to help out the 4Runner community....and a few pick-ups, too

Good luck on the engine you're putting in.....and think about the 16" x 100 pounders. I'm having another vision....

I happened to be in the neighborhood again and saw more metal there....a complete frame...control arms....some super HD coils....but nothing this time that works for the Yotas.

thanks man....check out his build thread some time...in my sig.....he will be old enough to drive come January and this is a sweet revival of an 88 4runner that was let to suffer for too long. we are almost there, but a new work schedule with a promotion and increased responsibilities has brought this build to a slow crawl.

now....I had myself convinced that the 13'' x 125lb ones were what we were going to do, but now you have me confused again with saying 16''. at most, we will ever only throw 33's on it......but between myself and him we have 4 sets of 31's, so we are going to have to use those up 1st....and if I'm putting 33's on anything, it will be my truck 1st (33 x 10.5-15's are what I desire)

as always, thanks for the insight and encouragement.

nice.....
almost pulled the trigger on them today but hesitated because any extra money really needs to go elsewhere right now. BUT....totally explained to the wife that the boy needs these (keep in mind this vehicle is NOT on the road and he is only 15)

Nice!

I did the old 'cut the upper bump stop' Zuk mod. I kinda wish I would have waited.

awesome mod,

I finally got around to the no cut Zuk mod . My runner rides way better and has a better looking stance. The coils are very tight on the bump stop bracket. But i see no issues as of yet. took it over to my inlaws farm and run it prett hard to try and setttle them out. No luck. But they did not move. How much trouble are ball joint spacers to install and do guys have any suggestions as to what size ? Hats off to Zuk for thinking outside the box and sharing your ideas.Oh and here are some pics of the install.
