Nick, The 22r was originally a forklift motor...Id rather have forklift motor then a minivan motor though..

That maybe, and those are cool vans!!! If in fact it WAS the late 80's, then it would seem the van got the motor from the trucks/cars...

However, the toyota truck has always evolved to stronger and better(bear with me 3.0liter guys...) powerplants. Not downgraded.

mid 80s vans

Actually the mid to lat 80s vans were called van wagons or just toyota vans, It is a common misconception that they had 22r motors. They actually had a 3y or a 4ybe motor depending on the year. I have owned 2 of those and it was one of my favorites. I have been looking for a good 4wd one for a while now. They are getting hard to come by
