I've done a quick search and didn't find much (don't yell). I need 16x7 wheels for the tires I'm getting. My truck is an 87 4Runner. I found some 16x7 stock wheels (which I want) from a newer Toyota truck (tacoma or tundra, I'm not sure).
My question before I buy them-the 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern is the same...there's no reason they won't fit, correct?
Or am I missing something? I would think they'd fit.
They're on Ebay and hopefully someone can answer me today before I buy them.

i have some 4 runner wheels double tri stars and a set of lx 450 wheels and they bolt up

 

pretty sure as long as its for a 4x4 ( 6.5-5 pattern) all the wheels from the toyota trucks/4runners (not sure about 2000yr+) will fit.

I've looked everywhere for stock wheels & couldn't find them for under $70 a piece. This place has new take offs for $15 each. Can't beat that price. I figure I can always get them powder coated black later if it matters to me down the road. In the picture there's room enough to fit around the front locking hubs, too.

All 6 bolt Toyota wheels are 6 x 5.5. The main difference between them all is is the backspace. But a torsion bar IFS truck was designed for 4.75" of backspace and so should accept basically any Toyota 4WD wheel.

 

Do I need to find out if the truck these wheels are off of was a 4WD then? I wouldn't think that would matter (but obviously I don't know). The ones I want don't have any backspace. The original spare on my truck had zero backspace though. Someone posted that stock 1st generation backspace was 4.75". How can that be if the spare tire wheel is zero backspace?

Edit: My step-dad's got a brand new 2WD Tundra with this size wheel. Next chance I get I'll just see if his spare will fit on my truck. To be on the safe side I guess I shouldn't buy the wheels yet.

 

Im running on a few hours sleep (way to hot to sleep) So I couldnt think of how to explain it.. and yes.. im still very tire.. dont mind me.

And if you want to, just spray bomb the rims, its really not very hard. I did mine and it turned out pretty good

 

I considered that and didn't know how long it'd last. Sand lightly 1st, right?
Shoot, even if they'd last a few months I could always either re-do them or get them powder coated.

i have 03 steel taco wheels on my 80 4x4. backspace is WAY different. had to space the rear over 1" and do some grinding in the front. i am running 235/85/16 tires. my friend is running the same wheels with 275/70/16s on his 94 4x4 with NO problems (backspace is very close to OE for that year).
so yes the bolt pattern is the same and will fit over the manual hubs.

 

That's sorta depressing then. 235/85/16 is the tire size I want. My 4Runner's an 87. So I may run into the problems you had.
Thanks to these posts I'm going to try my step-dad's Tundra wheel 1st to make sure . Otherwise I'd have obliviously ordered the wheels. And been stuck with them.

 

The 1980 would have much less backspace. Something like 3.5" on a solid axle, right?

 

I'm running '02 16" twisted stars on my '90 Truck, shod with 275/65/16s, and have no issues with them, at all.

You have pretty much the same chassis (different rear suspension set-up), so, unless there is a fender issue on your 1st gen, I would think you should be good to go!

 

Well that's a good sign <g>. I've got issues, I'm sure, but fenders aren't one of them thankfully. I want 235/85/16's which translate to around 31.5 x 9.5's. So I can't imagine I'd have problems. I've got 33x12.50-15's on right now with 4" backspaced wheels. (There's only a slight rub when it's cranked all the way). But the power loss has become more than I can take. I can't wait to get narrower tires.

 

yes the OE backspace on my 80 is 3.5" and i think the backspace on the newer 03 rims was like 4 5/8" or something like that. but like i said those rims and tires fit my friends 94 with no mods at all front or rear.

no it is not photoshoped the new rim is just clean.
the problem was that with the taller tire (32" vs 28") when the rear axle would articulate it would pinch the tire against the frame. this would pinch if on side was above the other only like 8 or so inches. i spaced it 1 2/8" and now there is no problems at all.

 

Oh jeez. You know what was really throwing me? I didn't even realize the newer truck wheels were backspaced at all because the front of them looks flush with the front rim. The 4" bs'd aftermarket wheels on my truck now "look" backspaced (sunk in). I'm feeling stupid right now.
So even the newer Toyota truck wheels are backspaced? Even though they don't look it? I guess you learn something new everyday even though it's obvious to everyone else-ha.

To figure out backspacing... just place a straight edge on the back of the rim and measure down to the mounting surface at the hub.

Compare this measurement to what you currently have. Might give you a better idea of what will and won't come close to working.

If you try your Step-Dad's wheel or similar for fit, make sure you try to fit on the front as well as the rear. You'll run into different possible interference problems due to different brake systems, steering, etc.

 

I've always figured backspacing from the *front of the wheel. No wonder I was always confused. I've read the directions on it 100 times and evidently I always just assumed they were measuring from the front. Your's is the only post I recall saying specifically to measure from the back, it never occurred to me but I see now that's the only right way to do it. I need slapped, I guess. Another concern was the wheel hole being big enough for the front locking hubs. It doesn't look too small though.

When putting some Einke 4Runner wheels onto our 88, we had to ream the centers a good bit to clear the manual hubs on the front. That was not fun. Something to look out for...
