Hello, new to this site. Not new to cars. This is my first 4runner. Had older pickup but needed a decent get around car to let family use from time to time. 1993 4runner. V-6, auto. 245,000 miles but lots and lots of recent work. Runs great. Planning on mild work to make it reliable and fun offroad but nothing crazy.

Just wanted to say hello.

PLEASE read the EPIC 3VZE thread in my sig line. An amazing amount of great info in there.

3.0 auto will give you some horrible fuel economy & performance. If you plan to off-road, lose those side steps & put some decent M/T tires on there~

The running boards and tires are on my list. The 3.0 is a gamble for sure, but for a DD that will see mild offroad it should work. If I like the chassis I am not appose to a motor swap...time will tell if that is the direction to go.

Its true the 3.0 has a bad rep, but might as well drive it into the ground before spending the cash on replacing it. Might as well live with it until you cant....same quote could easily be applied to a significant other lol =)

Awww..I just bought a 3.0 5 speed..didn't know the 3.0 had a bad rap...

For what I paid I can deal with the 3.0. heads and lots of other work were done at the dealer in the last 10k. Should last for sometime I am guessing.

3.0 isnt by any means a bad motor, but it lacks power and fuel economy, something that goes 300k after the headgasket fix isnt bad in my eyes....

also, if it has the stock radiator, swap in a radiator from a manual 4runner and re route the trans cooler to a trans cooler that isnt attached to the rad, they like to break and mix causeing strawberry milkshake, which destrys the engine and trans

Radiator is new in the last 10k. New head gaskets, head bolts, timing chain , water pump, radiator, ps pump, brakes, rebuilt rear end, lots of small fixes as well. The po took it to the dealer for all fixes.

Of course the valve cover gaskets leak, first fix this weekend (going to tackle removing the intake manifold) , need new exhaust and a few small things to make it reliable. Then on to fun stuff.

I'd still go with a trans cooler that's separate from the rad. It really isn't something you want to happen.
