I just bout a 89 pickup with a 22re
at first it ran fine but then on day it just stared acting up while i was driving it

it will start up and idle kinda decent but when i go to give it gas it bogs and the dam thing is pissing me off i wana kill it.ahhh

it will drive but wont accelerate at all and its pissing me off

i put accel wires on thinking it would help
and ngk plugs

prior to the problems i installed a K&N filter

i need this truck to run soon for the up coming hurricane season which means mud! Yeah

some on please help me

i know this is probably been posted but im on my way to work at the parts store and will ask around there i got some commerical toyota account so maybe ill ask one of them but any help would be super.

Sounds like your AFM is stuck or sticking. When you changed the air filter maybe you unplugged the connector or banged it. That is where I would start.

It sounds like the fuel filter to me. I had an 86 that did what you're describing, and it was the filter.

i already replaced the feul filter
i took off the tps when i cleaned the throttle body maybe i put it on wrong
is that possible

i checked the tps and it was put on the write way
some one at work suggested that it might be that i am not getting enough fuel pressure

no i dont think its my AFM no way
i went out and borowed my buddies afm off of his 22re pick up and it was still boggingso the maf/afm is a no go

You just can't take a TPS off and put it back on this is the info I used after messing with mine. My truck was doing the same thing along with other problems but the TPS not adjusted right was one and after setting it truck runs better.

You have to set it exactly as the FSM tells you, which happens to be the same as that write up. It is is off just a little the wrong way, you can't even set the timing right.

Get back to basics. If the problem didn't exist b4 you started changing things retrace your steps around the air cleaner area.

AFM or TPS...been there done that...replaced both. If you can't figure it out, take the effort to take it to the dealer...diagnosed mine right quick and fixed it pronto. And get an aftermarket AFM w/ a lifetime warranty...a 1/4 of the OEM price and w/ a lifetime warranty.

im going to my local toyota dealer on monday

i work at the advanced down here were i live and evan with my 20% discount i still wont be getting a better deal than at the dealership

Simply put, if you pulled the TPS off and just slapped it back on, you screwed up. The function of the TPS is exactly what it stands for: Throttle Position Sensor. It has to be set right otherwise it will send signals to the ECU that have nothing to do with the actual circumstances of how you are trying to operate the vehicle.
For example, you could have the throttle pretty much wide open which pulls a bunch of air through the AFM which sends a particular signal to the ECU while the misadjusted TPS is possibly saying that the throttle is only partially opened sending a different signal to the ECU. The result; messed up timing and fuel delivery and an engine that runs like crap.
Read how to adjust the TPS, check for dropouts especially, get it adjusted correctly, then check your tubing from the AFM to the throttle body for cracks or loose connections (it won't run right if it is sucking air through an alternate source), pull the EFI fuse to reset the ECU, then take it for a drive and see where you stand.

Thought I should add to make sure and check that the TPS is properly installed to begin with. Pull off the hose coming from the afm and look inside the throttle body while it is in the closed position.
If it is properly installed the flap should be fully closed. If you hooked it back together incorrectly (which can be done) I believe you will see that it is partially opened. If that is the case, pull the TPS off and put in on the correct way. Read through recent threads and you will see a post about this exactly.

Ebay price was $13 for a TPS. I was not sure that was the problem, but I thought I'd be able to understand how it works etc, at the minimum. Also got the connector with it, with an inch of wire on it. That became my test plug.

After playing with that for awhile, and making measurements with an ohmeter it became obvious how critical the setting is.

Also in the process, I realized that the Ebay TPS was working just fine, but so was my original TPS, although it was simply misadjusted.

The adjustment process was now fairly simple, which fixed the problem (low idle (500rpm)).

Don't know when or how it became misadjusted, as it came that way when I bought the '94 4Runner last month.

Anyway, point is, I wouldn't buy a new part until I was sure the old one was not working, given how easy it is to not adjust the TPS properly, assuming you have the time to play and learn.
