I once had a guy try to tip me for showing him how to check his oil! I told him, "No thanks I just took two of your paychecks for the work you had done, I think you can use it more than me."

That is the problem with society today, modern medicine, parents and "society" keep stringing along and protecting people whom natural selection would take out in 15 minutes given the chance. We are progressively dumbing down and ruining the human race. At least in America.

The less one has to rely on others, the more satisfaction and enjoyment one can enjoy.

The person who started the thread had already replaced the springs themselves and done a fine job. What kind of brain spasm would make someone tell him it wasn't worth doing himself?

And yeah, saving money and making money are the same thing in my book.
Thank you! it felt well satisfied to get it done myself, especially since i have spent money on schooling (automotive student). I take pride in being able to fix most anything on my cars. Most currently i'm working on rebuilding my Acura over the winter. I reliaze that not all people are mechanically inclined but something as simple as unbolting and re bolting a few bolts and playing with your rear end is defiantly doable by most people who try. Of course forums and like and other forums i visit like Acura-legend.com and acuraworld.com are there to help people do these kind of things on their own, you have no idea how many people on the A-L.com i've guided thru things who had no idea what they were doing and had accomplished their goals and saved some money.

Thanx for all the comments guys!

As a pro I have the utmost respect for you guys who are do it yourselfers whether by choice or by economic necessity. I have been a diy er for both reasons.

Sometimes it comes down to economics to pay someone to do the work. Remember time is also money. Especially if you are self employed. There are certain things that I would love to learn to do, but when it comes down to it, the money I lose by working on the runner far outweighs what I would pay someone to do it, plus it's done faster. Now once my runner is not my wifes dd, I don't mind it being down for awhile and learning how to fix certain things. Don't get me wrong, I have done all my own work so far, but nothing major has happened to it. If the HG were to blow tomorrow, I would have to pay for it to be done, because the work I would miss trying to do it myself would cost me more. Now if the HG blows when it is my trail rig, I will definately tear into it myself. I can work on it at my pace and when I have time. Oh yeah, trying to find some wood to knock on right now. Alperovich, the runner looks way better too!:bigclap:

Well said, if my tranny took a dump I could have parts on hand and be building it in a few hours but if my head gaskets blew and I didn't have a back up ride, I would maybe send it out. But probably not and Iknow not everyone is setup to do everything but come on, springs and shocks?

I was ranting more about an attitude not particularly expressed on this thread. Just mostly a bad day. Why couldn't this Jeep have had a good ole reliable A340 in it instead of a Dodge 3 speed? Course then I probably wouldn't have it in the shop.

Lamm, vent window's are great, as long as you don't want to use your side mirrors, that is the only thing I hate about mine.

Yeah you are right, I was more making a point that it sometimes isn't possible to do it all yourself. I personally think that on a trail rig, you should try to do as much as possible yourself, because the knowledge will help you out in the end. I can't wait for my runner to not be the grocery getter, so I can tackle some projects that can't be done in one day. As it is right now, when I wheel on Sat. I have to get it all put back together Sun. If it breaks I have one day to fix it.

That's right slosurfer, if you don't know what the underside of your rig looks like when it is ok how would you know what to look for when something breaks on the trail.

Alperovich, I didn't even notice the vent windows you lucky dog. I used to have them on a 2wd truck.

Where can I get vent window conversion? Buy used doors?

THanx! yea i think if you just get doors off a truck with them, it might be the easiest way to do it!

HI I'M NEW AT THIS. I HAVE A 92 PICK UP. IT HAS A BROKEN LEAF ON THE DRIVER SIDE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. CAN SOME ONE GIVE ME A ROUGH IDEA OF WHAT TOOLS I WILL NEED, WHAT CAN GO WRONG ect... IT LOOKS SIMPLE BUT THE TRUCK IS MY ONLY MEANS OF GETTING TO WORK SO I CANT TAKE TO LONG TO GET THIS DONE. I DON'T WANT TO PAY TO HAVE IT DONE SINCE IT LOOKS LIKE 6 BOLTS ARE ALL THAT ARE INVOLVED. NOT COUNT ING THE SHOCKS. ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GREAT
