New rebuilt 3vze v6 idle bounce
I just had a remanufactued 3.0 put in my 94 2wd sr6 4runner. I blew a rod in the last one. Also had new water pump, most hoses, cap, rotor, belts, plugs, wires, a/c commpressor, intake boot, etc , etc replaced as well. I have a warranty and ultimatly the mech will figure what's causing the idle to bounce.
He checked all the vacum lines. Still can't find what's causing it to bouce. It will remain steady sometimes but usually bounces between 600-700 rpm and in warm up mode a little more but at higher RPM.
What could cause this. Was not doing it with the old engine. I read on here something about a coolant line to the throttle body may be gummed up not allowing the wax element to heat up right. Does that apply to this engine? Any other things I should have them check? TPS, ISV?

BUMP, anyone have a clue as to what would cause the idle to not be steady if not a vac leak on a new rebuilt engine? I should mention the EGR modulator was also replaced a couple months ago.

With these motors, always check the Throttle Position Sensor to make sure it is set right. If the ECU thinks the throttle is off idle it can cause the thing to surge.

New tps and adjust and timing set again. Old one was reading 3.5 volts on idle switch in tps instead of 0 and contacts were cooked. Now 3.0 is running great! Solved the surging idle, hunting for gears, poor fuel economy, poor power. Now it feels like a new engine and engine bay should. Pop the hood and everything looks new. Now gotta get new front rotors and pads and fix the leak in seal from driveshaft to rear diff. Not bad but now identified by the dye and blacklight. Drive side inside caliper piston in stuck and wearing that pad down in front. Hope cleaning is all it needs.

My mech purchased 3 TPS's today. One for my 94, his own 4x4 3.0, and another customers 3.0. All had same symptoms. Covina is all sold out of TPS Shout out for T&L motors , formally Toyolex! This site! (outlawmike) 4crawler.com for excelent tps write up
