New member to the board!!

Hey guys, My name is Steven and I am from Montgomery AL. I have been lookin around the board for a few weeks and reading a few posts. I have a 94 4x4 pickup with the 22re 5 spd. It is all stock besides a set of 31x10.5 tires. I took a couple of pics today of it when I went to get a few buckets of rocks, here are the pics.

My first mod is gonna be to weld the rear diff since I do not have a whole lot of money, closely following is gonna be bj spacers and rear shackles with some type of decent shocks. Before any of this though, I need to get the timing chain taken care of and replace that itty bitty cam. Comments please!! Tell me what yall think!! I am also open to any and all recommendations to part choice or anything like that....I am new to this game...

Welcome!

A welded rear diff, if you're planning on driving the truck on road, will be entertaining in the wet, to say the least. You don't really have a lot of weight over the rear and that complicates things quite a bit.

Anyhow, you don't have an "itty-bitty cam". Most aftermarket cams don't add a heck of a lot of power anywhere but mostly move the powerband around.... Also, changing the cam requires removing the head bolts so make sure you are prepared to replace the head gasket as well.

You will be squealing your tires on the streets all the time.
Shorter tire life on pavement.

I was under the impression that the stock cam has a pretty small duration, something like 198 degrees of duration and .398" of gross lift....the cam I am looking at has just a tad more lift but has much more duration. My truck does 75 on the freeway but the gas mileage I am getting doing that speed is horrible so I figured it was time to replace the timing chain as well as the cam while I am in there and upgrade the exhaust as well to let the cam pump more air since the stock exhaust is very small.

And maybe I will lay off the rear diff for now till I can get a real locker, maybe a lockrite....not sure yet....
