new idea maybe? smoke stacks.
I know smoke stacks are for pick-ups, but has anyone done/thought about smoke stacks on 4runners?
I'm hoping to get a 88 4runner with a bad motor, so I was thinking besides lift and tires what else to do. If anyone has done it, I would love to get pictures, if not, I'm gunna try to do it when I find a place to put the stacks.

Where would you bring them up on an SUV?
Besides that, something that redneck would look out of place on an import truck. Get you a POS Ford to do that stuff to.

I can't imagine a place on these runners that would look even semi-natural to bring the stack up from. Now if you had a U.S. made truck (Ford, Chevy, Dodge), it might be a bit different. I can't imagine it on a yota. Maybe try it with a pickup?

How about right out of the hood, towards the back, just run the pipes up the A pillars, put the mufflers and Cat converters on the roof and have it blow out the back. That way its more aerodynamic too. It would look like a snorkle only exhaust instead!

That's the thing, that's illegal in NY. Exhaust can't come out of the hood in anyway. That's why I wanted smoke stacks, cuz i do alot of muddin'..

I can't get out my doors, but just jump out the sunroof. That's cool though, cause half the time I'm over my doors in mud anyway.

Good thing you've got those pipes aimed upwards....otherwise you'd have melted your saddle.

There was a guy back where I used to live with a 1st gen truck. He had a single pipe (Maybe around 2.5") going up along the outside of his bed up to the back of the top of the cab with one of those flapper thingies on it. Maybe you could run the exhaust up the side of the 4Runner, right behind the drivers door. Or just run it it straight back and curve at the back and run it parallel to the rear window up to the roof.
Just some thoughts.

If it could be done without looking retarded it would be pretty helpful. Exaust pipe's going under water is almost as bad as the intake goin under. It's gotten me stuck several times, the water blocks the pipe and you loose most of your power.

As the exhaust go under the belly of the 4runner cut some holes near the rear through the body and route the pipes through the rear interior and out of the top. Thats the only way I could think of to do it. I'm probably considered a redneck by most but I wouldn't even think about doin that.

What's all this about a "blower cover"???
That unit on my hood is where I have mounted my 10" LCD screen. Well, really a 10" TV... as LCD's are spendy. That cowl worked perfect for depth. Wouldn't fit in the dash.

Why not bring it up the back seat right behind the console and out the roof.....wouldn't need a working heater anymore.....
Or you could do like airplane fuel trucks, put the exhaust out the front bumper, and then go up.....You could hide the muffler under the skidplate....Make it look like bull horns :-)
