new guy with '89 Hilux SURF

new guy here with a Japanese import 1989 Hilux SURF. It did have a diesel engine but that is no more. Now sports a 22-RE engine and a V6 front grill. 5spd gearbox. Just wanted to say hi and ask on simple question. Any have a diagram for the shift pattern on the transfer case? My has a skull shifter but it was able to randomly find 4WD HI, LOW and 2WD on the weekend when I took it offroad but haven't a clue would help. Thanks.

Welcome to Yotatech!! What part of Canada are you from? I find it so weird seeing the drivers seat on the opposite side of these Hilux Surf's

Maybe this shifter picture will help you out....

Ah that is perfect - all makes sense seeing that now. Thanks.

I'm in Lethbridge - southern Alberta. Driving from the right isn't that bad actually. Once or twice I've caught myself trying to go into 5th instead of 1st or put the wipers on instead of indicating a turn. Other than that no issues with rhd.

Alberta boy eh

That shifting would really screw me up, I guess you would get used to it after a while. Your runner looks very much like mine, I like the faded black color. Any other mods in the works?

Its more of a blue-ish grey colour. No real plans except drive the wheels off the thing. A few things to fix up. Square up the grill mounting, horn, one indicator light at the front. Just minor stuff. Nothing crazy yet - I've got a couple other car project that need finishing too.

Yo. Nice truck! I can't say welcome... I just joined last night.

RHD always makes me do a double take. It would be fun to drive one. Enjoy! My plan is to drive the wheels off of mine, too.

That is pretty cool how the driver seat is opposite of the norm here. Can we drive a truck with the steering wheel on the passenger side legally in the US?

I think you can drive RHD vehicles no problem but importing this to the US would a major and expensive hassle. In Canada we can register pretty much anything 15 years or older.

toylocost - I see you are building a Lotus Seven replica - me too! Mine is 4AGE powered. Progress thus far.
