new guy 1st t4r

Whatsup guys just got my 1st 4runner, needed a truck to tow my bike here and there and had to be a toyota haha. Well its a 95 limited 4wd with the 3.0 and 140k mi. It has some cancer on the fenders and the tailgate is really rusted out. I paid 2800 cash for it cause of the rust and the rear window didnt work. Today I fixed the window (took apart the motor and cleaned it and greased it) now it works! Just that rust scratched the glass to hell. Planning on getting a toyotafiberglass tailgate but yeah... Im moving from Mi. to Tx here in a coupe of days and need to take my bike and my project car (85 corolla gt-s) still not sure which im gonna take this trip haha. Hope to get plenty of reliable miles outta it.

Welcome to Yotatech! Got any pictures of your truck?

Is your 4runner a 5sp or auto?

you could always swap the auto for a manual.

What part of Texas are you heading to? If you're going to be in the Houston area and are up for hitting some trails just let me know. You should get plenty of miles out of it. Keep the oil changed in it and the truck will out last you. In regards to the fiberglass gate I don't recomend them, I've been through two and went back to the stock one.

Yea I know the area, I pass through there on the way to Abilene. You have some good wheeling spots around there, and yea you should be able to make the drive with both in tow, just don't expect to get good gas mileage.

Thats cool, Ill hit you up sometime when I get down there. Ive never done any offroading but I want to get into some, Me and the wife are going to visit her parents who live on a reservation in Az so gonna see if I can have some fun while im out there. Im still stumped on how Im gonna tow both the bike and car as I gotta rent something and cant find anything that'll work. I came across this
http://www.motorcycle-carriers.net/tow_dolly.html which would be perfect but I cant afford to buy I need to rent something. Any suggestiouns?

To tell you the truth I would just rent a truck from U-haul and a car hauler. Throw all of your stuff including your bike in the back. Throw the car on the hauler and have your wife follow you in the Runner. Unless she has a car to bring too, then my plan can be flushed down crapper.

I was going to rent a u-haul or similar but thats the reason I got a truck instead, the cheapest I could find for a oneway rental including a tow dolly was around 1500. So I just spent a little more and got my 4runner. If I could I would have the 4 runner tow the car and I could ride my bike down (woulld be a horrible ride haha) but I gotta do it solo as my wife is deployed (She's coming back in 2 weeks).
