Need some help today, sensor issue, please!

Hello all, I
know I posted this before in the original thread in reference to the original thread, and I apologize if this is not kosher. But, I could really use some input today, if possible. So, I'm posting in a new thread to hopefully get some more immediate attention. It's been MONTHS!!! waiting for this vehicle and I don't want to slow this project down anymore than it has already been. I would really like to get this vehicle back and running. It's becoming a real problem. I hope you understand.

Motor installation still underway......looooooong story. Nevertheless, today we ran into a sensor wire harness issue. There is a sensor under the intake on the driver's side on the motor being installed, and the plug end doesn't match with the wire plug end on the vehicle. To recap: the motor is a V6 from an 89' 4runner, the vehicle it's going into is a 92' 4runner. My question is: was there a changeover on this sensor from '89 to 92', or can we just change out the plug end/s to match up? Called dealer on this, but they need part numbers to determine if the sensors are different. Which would be fine, except that we would have to tear everything involve down to get to the sensor to get the part number. PITA!!!! If anyone knows and can help answer, that would be great. Thanks in advance!

Ran into that once also. That sensor is your knock sensor. Same thing just a different plug. Pull the wires out of the plug and splice them together. I had no problems with it.

Okay, thanks Worley! You're sure there is no other sensor in that area? I ask because I do not have a FSM and my Haynes manual does not cover this, as far as I can tell.

Nope only one sensor down there in the block under the intake. Kinda stupid place for it if you ask me but I think that 3.0 was badly engineered from the get go. I have done a few R&R's on these and I still curse the engineers who came up with some of the ideas. But thats just me. Still love toyota though.
